I thought I should get SATA now anyways. it is the only drive in the machine, i hav installed it and it is working but it only shows a 127GB capacity in windows xp. All you have to do is load up the Recovery Console and run a simple command. Do I need to change this,to another value?

I am 100% sure it's a software issue not hardware. Also, it won't run under safe mode. If not, you can extend it using a controller card just the same way as with IDE.
